Famous City Of Barcelona

It has been invaded by the Visigoths, the Muslims and then the armies of what is now France.

The Empire controlling Barcelona grew and fell over the centuries, with times of peace and of war. This rich and exciting history is part of what makes Barcelona a fascinating destination to visit. Today, Catalonia is one of Spain’s seventeen autonomous communities and Barcelona is its capital. Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain.

Barcelona contains an old city area which is known to be one of the most romantic in all of Europe. The area is full of charm with its small shops and streets. It is a lovely area to just wander around and take in the atmosphere. There are beautiful old buildings that are worth seeing for their architecture which is a mix of Gothic, Romanesque and Renaissance.

The Rambla is one of the landmarks that make Barcelona famous. It stretches from Pl. de Catalunya to the Columbus statue. It is filled with kiosks, animal stalls, flower stalls and artists. Here you will brush shoulders with many of the locals who also spend time in this colorful area. If you enjoy a bit of sunshine, Barcelona can offer that to you as well. It has recently been involved in a seafront recovery operation and now boasts four kilometers of beautiful beaches.

Alongside the historical areas of the city of Barcelona, visitors can find a modern cosmopolitan city. It is easy to find a large variety of night life activities. The city offers anything from discos to pubs, concerts to terraces and many varied and popular fiestas and shows. If old architecture is not your style, you will also find that Barcelona is a center of Modernist architecture. In fact, it appears to be at the forefront of international tendencies in this regard.

Barcelona contains any number of accommodation options anything from hotels to hostels and many choices in between. The hotels in Barcelona are very popular and they tend to have up to 85% room occupancy throughout the year. If you decide to stay in a hotel, it is recommended for you to book your room well in advance to avoid disappointment.

In Barcelona, you will also be able to find holiday apartments throughout the city that are available for rent. Surprisingly, these are not very popular so you are likely to be able to find excellent deals here. The advantages of a rental apartment are that you will often find an apartment to rent, at a reasonable price, in an area where hotel accommodation is often booked up well in advance (such as by the beach). They also offer privacy and space to a degree that you will not be able to find in a hotel. Barcelona also offers ‘aparthotels’ and hostels. Aparthotels are apartments within hotels which have self-catering facilities. They offer more space, more privacy and generally better prices, with slightly fewer amenities than hotels. Hostels are shared accommodation that are excellent if you are traveling on a budget.

Famous Guitar Players

Guitars are wonderful musical instruments that have inspired many music lovers to learn how to play them as much as possible. There are many guitarists who have been playing the guitar for years and are under the impression that they know much about playing the guitar. However, the fact is that even if one plays the guitar for decades, he will not reach the height that this instrument has to offer. This simply means that you can just keep learning to play the guitar and different techniques, and still keep wanting and discovering more.

Even the top world famous guitarists say that they have still learned nothing in their lives. However, there are some guitarists who have reached a respectable level of experimenting with the guitar playing skills and techniques. These guitarists have contributed a lot to the music industry. Let us take a look at a list of famous guitar players sorted according to the style of playing, types of guitar they play, and the genre of music they are into.

There have been many great guitarists whose talent with the instrument has created magic in the musical world. These greatest guitar players of all time have played the musical instrument so accurately and each of them have created a signature individual style. Many have found inspiration in their tunes and tried to master the art of guitar playing.

These men have an in-born talent that has the strings of the guitar stir out melodies beyond the widest imagination. These greatest guitarists have made their fans smile, cheer and even move them to tears when their fingers hit the strings. The following is a list of greatest guitar players of all time that does not claim to be definitive, but an effort to enlist some of the greatest guitarists of all time. The following top 10 greatest guitar players are some of the most popular guitarists worldwide.

Greatest guitar players of all time

<form> </form>

The greatest guitar player EVER as far as electric guitar – was, without a doubt, Jimi Hendrix. He could even play behind his back or with his tongue. His songs, notwithstanding his licks, made him famous to every college student in the 1960′s and seventies. Hendrix’s music burst forth from those not-so-hallowed halls of academia, where pot and incense mixed together to heighten everybody’s already altered senses. His death was untimely. He was so far ahead of his time that he naturally had to fight the forces of greedy record producers and other jealous guitarists who couldn’t even come close to, stand next to, touch his fire. Shortly after starting his own record company he died of an overdose.

As far as classical guitar playing – the most famous is Andrs Segovia, who achieved worldwide fame in his sixties. His Chaconne by J.S. Bach is incredible. A perfect interpretation of Renaissance music. Segovia’s renditions were technically flawless, smooth, effortless. His music and melodies captured the essential Spain – not the gritty side but the serene beauty, the timeless feel of a sophisticated Iberian sensibility.

At present, the greatest guitar players are mostly found in Spain. Almost no one can play like a Spaniard, unless they have some gypsy in their blood (as Hendrix). Go to a side-street bar late at night in Barcelona or Granada, Spain and hear Flamenco gypsies tear it up. These virtuosos jam on a Tarantas, Pasodobles, Farrucas, Rhumbas. Sometimes a woman Flamenco dancer will dance on a table, while the male guitarists belt-out a wail about a passionate love betrayed or lost -about revenge or racism and poverty. Their language in ancient, a Spanish at times unrecognizable to most people conversant in the language. It is CATALAN, Moorish-gypsy, deeply Catholic. This is terribly exciting music. Flamenco played by Spanish gypsies is so moving, with so much “duende” or feeling. Flamenco artists play it different each time, so it’s always alive, always creative. It’s never boring. Never the same. My absolutely favorite music group is the Gypsy Kings. I’ve seen them perform twice here in Albuquerque and we have their CD’s, DVD’s. Catch them when they come to your town. Not to be missed. Truly fabulous.

Use “stravinsky’s Secret” to Supercharge Your Marketing Copy

The two black men, clean-cut and well-spoken, casually stroll down an upscale California street.

Mostly-white yuppies step into and out of restaurants and clubs on this busy Saturday night. Well-dressed 30-somethings stroll about, window shopping.

Now, one white couple comes from the opposite direction, walking toward the black men. The camera zooms in, showing the white woman suddenly clutching her bag and the arm of her male companion just a little bit tighter as they approach and then pass the black men. The camera pans to the men.

“Look around!” says one of the men to the other. “You couldn’t find a whiter, safer, or better lit part of this city. But this white woman sees two black guys, who look like UCLA students, strolling down the sidewalk and her reaction is blind fear. I mean, look at us! Are we dressed like gangbangers? Do we look threatening? No. Fact, if anybody should be scared, it’s us: the only two black faces surrounded by a sea of over-caffeinated white people, patrolled by the trigger-happy LAPD.”

You may recognize this scene. It is at the beginning of the 2005 Academy Award-winning film Crash.

And it was at this exact point that I recall thinking, “Oh brother, here we go. Looks like I’d better get ready for a politically correct Hollywood preachfest.”

I had it all figured out. I knew where it was heading, and I was ready to tune it all out.

But that’s when something very interesting happened. Back to the black men talking…

“So, why aren’t we scared?” asks the first man.

And now, the big surprise when the other one replies…

“Because we have guns?”

And then the two men run into the street and violently carjack the white couple’s BMW SUV, throwing them to the ground and screeching away. Wow! I didn’t expect that! NOW, Crash most definitely had my attention. Not because I was glad to see the black men fall into stereotype, but because I’d been perfectly set up to anticipate just the opposite.

In films and books, it’s sometimes known as a ” deus ex machina”… You may think of it simply as a plot twist… But in copywriting, it’s defying what Michael Masterson has termed the “Categorical Imperative”.

When readers start knowing where the copy is going… when they can predict the next step in your story… they tend to dismiss it – tune it out, just as I was about to do with Crash . They might still be reading, but really, you’ve lost them.

You see, the mind tends to simplify its work by slipping incoming ideas into pre-existing slots (“categories”) it has already created. It does this so it can shift its attention to something else (anything else). And it will do this with promotional information as well as other experiences.

In order to circumvent this tendency of the mind, strong writing – and, in particular, good sales promotions – must avoid a straight-line, logical approach.

Instead, use “indirection.” Approach the reader in a way, or from a place, he doesn’t expect. And then, keep changing things up. The overall effect is to keep the reader from anticipating where the promotion is going and keep his mind from wandering.

In his engaging new book Proust Was a Neuroscientist, Rhodes Scholar Jonah Lehrer explains how Russian composer Igor Stravinsky used what I’ll call the musical equivalent of indirection to overcome the Categorical Imperative of his listeners.

It began in 1913 with Stravinsky’s audaciously shocking ballet music, “The Rite of Spring” (“Le Sacre du Printemps”). Instead of lulling his audience to sleep with predictable chords and rhythms, Stravinsky constantly changed time signatures and added unpredictable and off-beat accents.

Traditionalists at first rejected ” Rite” as a dissonant disaster, but most soon realized the genius behind it. American composer Aaron Copland has since characterized “The Rite of Spring” as the foremost orchestral achievement of the 20th century. It was further popularized through Walt Disney’s Fantasia.

With his background of having worked in the lab of Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist Eric Kandel, Lehrer explains how the brain actually generates dopamine – the “pleasure” neurotransmitter – when presented with interesting, new information. Usually, dopamine release is triggered during enjoyable experiences, such as eating and having sex. It also gets “fooled” into being released with drugs such as cocaine, nicotine, and amphetamines. But Lehrer points out that not only enjoyable experiences but also new experiences and new stimuli trigger dopamine release. [Full disclosure: I too worked in Kandel's Columbia University lab some years ago.]

“Stravinsky forces us to generate patterns from the music itself, and not from our preconceived notions of what the music should be like,” writes Lehrer. “By abandoning the conventions of the past, he leaves us with no pattern but that which we find inside his own music.”

“Stravinsky’s greatest fear was dying the slow death of predictability. He wanted every one of his notes to vibrate with surprise, to keep the audience on edge.”

So, how can you use “Stravinsky’s Secret” to make your writing as fresh and compelling as “The Rite of Spring”?

The best way to defy the brain’s Categorical Imperative is with indirection. Go back to your copy and mark any areas that are boring, obvious, or predictable. More likely than not, here’s what has happened: You’ve fallen prey to writing clichés.

Michael Masterson explains it:

“When a prospective customer reads your copy, you want to get him excited about your product or service. You want to say something fresh and tantalizing to engage him. But when you use clichés, something else happens to your prospect. A little switch inside turns him off. He says to himself, ‘I know this already… I don’t need to give it any more attention.’”

Just like I was thinking at the beginning of Crash . Just like Stravinsky’s audience was probably thinking when they heard the opening notes of ” Rite .”

In your writing, the solution to the Categorical Imperative is to drill down, examine what you really wanted to say, and then say it in a fresh, new way or from a new angle.

What you want to do is direct the prospect’s thought process in such a way that he’s uncertain where he’s being led.

1. Paint an image in your reader’s mind that shows him all the benefits he can enjoy.

Example: “You look out your window, past your gardener, who is busily pruning the lemon, cherry, and fig trees…” From Bill Bonner’s famous promotion for International Living. Bill is evoking certain thoughts and feelings in the reader in order to gain his attention. He doesn’t want to initially admit that he’s selling a newsletter.

2. Ask the reader a question or make a statement that challenges him on a subject related to your product or service.

Example: “This invitation isn’t for deadbeats, rip-off artists, or ‘gentlemen’ who hate to get their hands dirty.” From Popular Mechanics’ promotion of the Do-It-Yourself Encyclopedia. Here, the copywriter wants to align himself with the emotions of his target audience before he lets them know he’s selling an encyclopedia.

3. Raise a threat or warning that begs for a solution (provided by your product or service).

Example: “Your wealth is in imminent danger.” From a Swiss Money Strategies insert. This gets the reader’s attention by evoking a whole range of fears. He can’t quite know from the headline what it is the copywriter is selling. Something financial, but what?

4. Make a surprising or alarming prediction that leads to your big promise.

Example: “A bank run like no other will hit every major bank on earth in 1999. A worldwide panic is now inevitable…” This prediction of catastrophe forces the prospect to read on to learn what the solution might be.

5. Share a new piece of information, which will benefit the reader.

Example: “This may be the most startling health news you have ever heard…” In order to know if it is the “most startling” (a pretty bold claim), the prospect has to read on.

6. Debunk a myth with evidence that demands the reader’s attention.

Example: “Conventional wisdom: You can’t push an insurance company when it comes to collecting money. Wrong ! Here are two proven ways to get your check within days.”By contradicting what most people think is true, the copywriter forces the reader to listen to his “proof.”

“When you use indirection,” Michael explains, “your copy will be infused with life. Your words will be fresh and thought-provoking. And your reader will keep turning the pages.

“Remember, as a copywriter, you’ve always got to keep your reader from getting ahead of you. If he can anticipate what you’re going to say, he’ll assume he knows what’s coming – and you’ll lose him.”

So whatever you want to call it – indirection… the plot twist… or even “Stravinsky’s Secret” – approach your reader in a way he doesn’t expect. You’ll then start triggering that dopamine release Jonah Lehrer writes about – literally making reading your copy “a pleasure”!

Result? Your sales letter gets read throughout, response rates skyrocket, and so will your sales and royalties.

Famous Artists And Their Drawings

Famous Art Galleries

There are literally thousands of art galleries all over the world. Almost every city has an art gallery but there are some art galleries that are known all around the world. People will travel across the world just to see some of these famous art galleries and the master pieces that they house inside.

Probably the most famous art gallery in the world is ‘The Louvre’ in Paris. The most famous piece of art in the Louvre is the Mona Lisa, by Leonardo Da Vinci. This famous painting is kept under high security as it tops the list of art thieves the world over. The Louvre also houses many other famous paintings by Da Vinci and hundreds of other famous artists.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, is a renowned location for beautiful art masterpieces. This museum has an impressive assortment of American paintings. In addition to these, it also has paintings and statues by famous artists such as Botticelli, Raphael, and El Greco. This makes it a global museum.

London has an amazing gallery known as The National Gallery. This gallery boasts of some of the finest examples of European art, including paintings by Raphael, Manet, Leonardo Da Vinci, Renoir, and Monet. This gallery has a very large number of paintings and some of the most famous ones are: Sunflowers, by Vincent van Gogh, The Virgin of the Rocks, by Leonardo Da Vinci, and Venus and Mars, by Sandro Botticelli.

Not all galleries across the world are homes to the old masters. Many of them offer representations from the twentieth century. Among the most famous contemporary art galleries and museums is the George Pompidou Center in Paris. The architecture is unique as well, since the piping and ducts are on the outside, rather than being hidden behind walls.

Contemporary art galleries and museums typically feature not only paintings, drawings, and prints, but exhibits of furniture, sound, light, and even music. Visiting these galleries can be a fascinating visit through the past few decades and shows how much style and taste has changed.

Most of the major European cities are home to at least a national and a contemporary gallery. Usually there are also private galleries. Any time you visit a major metropolitan area, be sure to include the galleries in your itinerary. It’s a wonderful way to learn about a country and its cultures. History and its changes are reflected in the art on display.

If you plan on buying some art pieces, you won’t be able to do so at the national galleries. You can however visit private galleries in your pursuit of owning some major works. These probably won’t include Renoir’s or Van Gogh’s, but you will find many wonderful pieces that you’ll be able to call your own. Art auctions are often held at Christie’s and other art houses. This is another way of obtaining some incredible works of art.

Art as an expression of our culture, thought process and creativity has no parallel. Viewing these masterpieces in an art gallery transposes the viewer into the mind and time of the creator who has shaped our culture.

Famous Artists At The Louvre

famous artists at the louvre

The Louvre

The Louvre is the most famous art museum in the world. It also has the most number of visitors per year. It is home to many great works of art that are historically significant in Western culture. It was originally built as a royal palace for King Philipp II. The architecture is similar to the French Renaissance style of the famous architect Pierre Lescot. Its use as a place to showcase art started at around the time of French Revolution. The idea began from the Luxembourg Palace in Paris which was then followed by the Louvre.

The Louvre originally collected the works or Leonardo da Vinci and Andrea del Sarto. Extensions of the site were commissioned as the continued expansion of the Louvre necessitated it. As France grew in power and stature in the 17th century, it was able to acquire increasing holdings. Major works from Dutch artists were acquired for display in the museum. Today, the collection is added by gifts from citizens.

One of the primary goals of the Louvre is to preserve and protect French art treasures. This includes collections from the early part of its history up to recent acquisitions to this day. They seek to give access to as large amount of people as possible to the beauty of all these works. The museum loans different works of art to different institutions all over the world too.

It has partnerships with other major art institutions. It was recently announced that a Louvre museum will be constructed in Abu Dhabi and should be completed in 2012. It will house work from different French museums, including those from the Louvre as well.

The Louvre Pyramid is the main entrance of the museum. The French president Francois Mitterrand hired the Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei to construct the glass pyramid. This was one of the first renovations from the Grand Louvre Project.

The Louvre houses some of the finest art collections in the world. There are eight departments, which are as follows: Paintings, Prints and Drawings, Decorative Arts, Sculptures, Islamic Art, Egyptian Antiquities, Greek and Roman Antiquities and Near Eastern Antiquities.

The museum has a collection of almost 12,000 paintings. The Mona Lisa is one of the more prominent pieces found in the museum. It is a 16th century portrait painted by Leonardo da Vinci. It is considered as one of the most famous paintings in the world. The picture is of an expressionless woman, which has been the subject of countless debates and arguments. The painting has undergone a number of conservation treatments leading to its’ relatively excellent state.

Other exhibits include sculptures, such as the Venus de Milo. Also known as the Aphrodite of Milos, it is an ancient Greek statue depicting Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Beauty. It is made of marble with the absence or arms from the sculpture being quite notable.

Aside from the aforementioned exhibits, others include engravings, drawings, books and archeology. To keep up with the times, the Louvre continually expands and develops new areas in the museum.

However, Lynda’s parents decided to delay the recording of an album in order to allow their daughter to concentrate on school and to grow a little bit older. So the album was not released until 1996.

In 1996 she recorded her first album titled “Lynda”. From that album sprang three songs “Gira que gira”, “Blue Jeans” and “El amor no tiene edad”. Her first album would place Lynda Thomas in the limelight almost over night. She received an award from a top selling teen magazine ERES. The award was for Best New Singer of 1996 . Her second album was released in 1997 with the title “Un grito en el corazón”. Some of the songs included in “Un grito en el corazón” became certified hits over the radio[citation needed]. Among the most popular were “Dile”, “Bang bang” and “Corazón”.

Later on, Lynda Thomas and her team went to work on what was to be her third album. For 8 months she retired from the music scene. She only made a brief comeback in early 1999 to participate with other fellow artists in the recording of the song “El Pescador”. The song was created as an homage to Pope John Paul II during his visit to Mexico in 1999 .

During her absence, Lynda Thomas decided to move to Los Angeles, California. There she took English and music lessons. “Mi Día De La Independencia” was the title of her third album. Released in mid-1999, this new musical production offered Lynda Thomas the opportunity to branch out and experiment with different genres and musical styles. At least four singles from “Mi Dia De La Independencia” became hits[citation needed]. “Maldita Timidez”, “No Quiero Verte”, “Corazón perdido” and “Mi Día de la Independencia” are the names of the songs that helped Lynda Thomas reach new levels of success in her young career.
